According to Ali Abdaal, "You can change your life in 2 minutes."
Luckily, this is a skill anyone can learn.
He is the most followed productivity expert in the world:
Has more than 4.5 million subs on YouTube
Ex-Doctor, Stood 1st in Cambridge
Earns millions of dollars in sales
So here are 7 of the best takeaways from his masterclass on productivity from Steven Bartlett's show "The Diary of a CEO." The episode was titled "Transform your life in 90 minutes."
#1 The 2 Minutes Rule to beat procrastination
Ali says most people go through laziness and inertia before a task at hand. Just tell yourself that you will only do it for 2 minutes. You are allowed to stop after that. Try this and see the magic. Once you begin and overcome the first 2 minutes, most likely:
Momentum will take over
You will start enjoying yourself
You will feel productive
You will feel confident
All of this will act as a force multiplier, helping you smash through your to-do list.
#2 Make things "Unicky"
Big things seem icky, like starting that new online business. "Unickyfy" it:
Day 1 - Just come up with 50 cool names Day 2 - Make the logo Day 3 - Make the landing page [Chill for a bit] Day 4 - Make the e-brochure Day 5 - Launch
#3 Play that Playstation game
Enjoy playing that video game thoroughly. If that is rest between your deep work:
You will feel recharged
Be more focused
Look forward to the next work bout
If you scroll Instagram when you are supposed to work, it will feel bad. Avoid.
#4 Daily Highlight:
Have a daily highlight marked in your to-do list. It works wonders. This could be the most rewarding/important thing you can do for the day. It will be a badge of honor on your to-do list and will cut off a lot of unimportant stuff.
#5 Learn Like a Genius
You can enhance your learning skills by active recall. Test your memory often and put pressure on your mind. Testing a little bit of what you have read is better than reading a lot and not remembering anything. Spaced repetition is very effective.
#6 Enjoying the Process:
Finding joy in the process rather than just focusing on outcomes is key to sustaining long-term efforts and avoiding burnout.
#7 Gratitude and Mindset Shifts:
Shifting from a mindset of 'have to' to 'get to' can transform tasks from burdens to opportunities.
